One Runout Led Us to Defeat; Afghanistan Captain Blames him

on

Afghanistan cricket team captain Ibrahim Zadran cited top-order batting failure as the primary reason for their seven-wicket defeat against India in the opening T20 International at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Batting first, Afghanistan posted 156/8 in their allotted 20 overs, a score Zadran admitted was below par for the surface.

The Afghan skipper noted that despite receiving decent starts, the team lost wickets in quick succession during the middle overs. India’s bowling unit capitalized on the collapse, restricting scoring opportunities before Azmatullah Omarzai (64 not out off 44 balls) and Mohammad Nabi (33 off 27 balls) added 83 runs for the sixth wicket to rebuild the innings.

Ibrahim Zadran explains the Runout:

Reflecting on the match dynamics, Zadran identified his own dismissal via run-out as the game’s turning point. Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan executed a swift throw to bowler Axar Patel, catching Zadran short of his crease for 11 runs and shifting the early momentum to the hosts.

India’s bowling attack was led by Arshdeep Singh, who claimed 3/19 in four overs, while Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy chipped in with a wicket each. In response, India achieved the 157-run target in 13.4 overs. Opener Abhishek Sharma struck a 32-ball 82 with seven boundaries and seven sixes, supported by Ishan Kishan’s 42 off 33 balls, giving India a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Ibrahim Zadran identified his own run-out, set up by Ishan Kishan’s throw, as the critical turning point that handed India full control. India chased down the 157-run target in 13.4 overs, winning by seven wickets behind Abhishek Sharma’s 82 off 32 balls.
