Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy chaired a high-level irrigation review meeting directing officials to protect state interests in ongoing interstate river water disputes without compromise. Ahead of Central Water Commission meetings on September 1 for the Tummidihatti project and September 7 for Krishna water allocations, CM instructed legal and engineering teams to present data-backed arguments. Telangana requested 112 TMC of drinking water allocations through August 2027 from the Krishna River Management Board.
Chief Minister instructed irrigation officials, legal experts, and technical teams to present uncompromising arguments protecting Telangana’s water rights across all legal and regulatory forums. During the review meeting at MCR HRD Institute alongside Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, the Chief Minister directed seamless coordination between legal counsel and engineers to defend state interests before the Supreme Court, Central Water Commission (CWC), Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), and Godavari River Management Board (GRMB).

Telangana officials are preparing comprehensive technical data for the upcoming CWC meeting on September 1 in Delhi regarding the Tummidihatti barrage on the Pranahita River. The state aims to justify constructing the barrage at 148 meters, presenting gravity flow feasibility, submergence mitigation studies, and historical inter-state agreements to address Maharashtra’s objections. For the September 7 CWC meeting on Krishna water disputes, officials will present arguments demanding 112 TMC of water allocation for drinking needs through August 2027 from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs while opposing Andhra Pradesh’s 47 TMC allocation request.

In response to potential rainfall deficits caused by El Niño weather patterns, Chief Minister emphasized maintaining sufficient water storage in major reservoirs like Srisailam project and Nagarjuna Sagar. Securing official allocations ensures uninterrupted drinking water supply across Telangana districts while preventing summer water shortages.
