Kolkata Police registered a suo motu FIR against former West Bengal Chief Minister, Trinamool Congress Party Chief Mamata Banerjee and TMCP organizers at Hastings Police Station. The complaint alleges that the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad foundation day event on Cathedral Road violated conditions set by the Calcutta High Court by occupying both road flanks, exceeding the 12 PM to 3 PM time limit, and causing traffic chaos.

Kolkata Police registered the case at Hastings Police Station against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and organizers of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). The action followed an investigation into the TMCP foundation day rally held on Cathedral Road. Sub-Inspector Apu Baidya filed the initial complaint, alleging that the event violated multiple directives issued by the Calcutta High Court.

Why Kolkata Police Registered Case:

The Calcutta High Court permitted the foundation day meeting on Cathedral Road with strict conditions, including keeping one road flank open for vehicular traffic, limiting attendance, and completing the program between 12 PM and 3 PM. Police reports state that supporters occupied both road flanks, completely blocking traffic. Additionally, the event extended past the permitted deadline, and attendees reportedly broke security barricades and scuffled with police personnel.

The Hastings Police registered the case under Sections 61(2), 223, 125(a), 132, and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Charges include criminal conspiracy, disobedience to orders promulgated by public servants, obstructing public ways, and acts endangering life or personal safety. Senior police officials confirmed that the roles of all organizers and key attendees will be examined during the ongoing investigation.
