Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is testing advanced customization features designed to expand automated assistant options for global users. Android beta testers can now configure WhatsApp third party AI agents, bringing external conversational bots directly into their primary chat lists.
According to beta tracking reports, a dedicated Agents section under app settings allows users to set up custom services. Operators generate an API key within WhatsApp and paste it into the third-party developer’s hosting dashboard to establish a secure link. Users can manage or remove connected services anytime through account settings. Removing an agent revokes API access immediately while preserving existing chat logs on the device, allowing users to reconnect the service later using a newly generated security key without losing past conversation history.
The integration marks a significant shift toward transforming WhatsApp into an open platform for autonomous AI tools. As testing progresses on Android, broader deployment will provide millions of users with direct access to specialized external software assistants directly within their d
