The Andhra Pradesh (AP) government has officially decided to supply free electricity for Ganesh pandals setting up across the state during the upcoming festive season. Minister for Human Resources Development and Information Technology Nara Lokesh confirmed this policy on Wednesday via social media, highlighting it as a major community support initiative.
The initiative is a state welfare policy that waives electricity charges for temporary pandals constructed during Ganesh Chaturthi. By granting free power supply, the government helps local organizing committees manage operational expenses associated with lighting, public address systems, and devotional displays throughout the festival period.
Who Announced AP’s Free Power Scheme?
Minister Nara Lokesh publicly announced the decision, emphasizing the AP government’s commitment to assisting citizens and community groups in hosting bright and joyful celebrations. He noted that Lord Ganesha’s blessings are wished upon every household in AP for success and prosperity.
The scheme applies directly during the main Ganesh Chaturthi celebration period, running from mid-September across all towns and villages in Andhra Pradesh (AP). State electricity boards and distribution companies have been directed to streamline temporary connection permissions and eliminate power tariff charges for registered organizers.
Festival organizers previously faced significant logistical fees and commercial utility tariffs for temporary power setups. Providing free power removes these financial barriers, promotes grander cultural participation, and reflects the state administration’s broader push toward community welfare and cultural support across all districts.
