The Shreyas Iyer-led Indian men’s T20 cricket team faced logistical challenges ahead of their departure to Japan for the Asian Games 2026. Several players experienced delays in receiving their official Indian Olympic Association (IOA) kits, requiring coordination between the BCCI, IOA, and sponsor JSW Inspire. Additionally, the BCCI arranged alternate accommodation in Nagoya after designated Games rooms lacked adequate space for players’ equipment.
The Indian team will wear two different kits during their Japan tour. They will wear their standard BCCI sponsor jersey for a standalone T20 match against Japan before switching to official IOA-approved unbranded blue attire for the Asian Games. International multi-sport event rules dictate that all athletes across different sports must represent the National Olympic Committee under a unified kit code without commercial federation sponsors. Accommodation challenges also emerged in Nagoya, where the initial rooms provided by event organizers were too small to hold the cricketers’ heavy equipment bags. Consequently, the BCCI arranged separate hotel facilities for the men’s team, while the women’s cricket team remained in the official IOA-provided housing.
As defending champions and top-seeded entrants, India bypassed the group stages and qualified directly for the knockout phase alongside Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
India will play their quarterfinal match on September 28 against the runner-up of Group A, which includes Afghanistan, Japan, and Nepal. The semifinals are scheduled for October 1, followed by the gold and bronze medal matches on October 3.
Asian Games regulations require all athletes to wear uniform National Olympic Committee (IOA) apparel without individual sports board commercial sponsorships. India will play their quarterfinal match on September 28 against the runner-up of Group A.
