The AP Cabinet has approved four new police commissionerates in Tirupati, Guntur, Kurnool and Rajamahendravaram as part of a restructuring of the state’s policing system. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on September 23.

The government cited rapid urbanisation, population growth and expanding commercial, industrial, transport and development activities in the areas. The new commissionerates are intended to provide an integrated command-and-control structure for policing and administration.The new police commissionerates will be headquartered in Tirupati, Guntur, Kurnool and Rajamahendravaram. Each will be headed by a Commissioner of Police holding the rank of IGP or DIGP. The government plans to establish them by redistributing or renaming already sanctioned police cadre strength.

AP New Commissionerates Include Four Regions

AP’s new commissionerates will cover four key policing regions, with Rajamahendravaram having three territorial zones aligned with East Godavari boundaries. Guntur will have four zones covering Guntur, Guntur Rural, the Amaravati Capital Region and Tenali. Tirupati will comprise four zones covering Tirumala, Tirupati, Srikalahasti and Sri City. Kurnool will have two territorial zones and five subdivisions covering Kurnool Urban, Kurnool Rural, Adoni, Yemmiganur and Pattikonda.

The Cabinet’s decision comes alongside several other measures discussed during the meeting. It approved revised administrative sanctions worth ₹1,548.98 crore for infrastructure development across gram panchayats within the Amaravati capital city limits.The Cabinet also approved investment proposals and other measures related to industrial, technology and infrastructure development, according to reports on the meeting.The four new police commissionerates will therefore expand the commissionerate system beyond the existing major urban policing arrangements, with the new administrative structures centred on Tirupati, Guntur, Kurnool and Rajamahendravaram.
