Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy convened an urgent energy sector meeting following political announcements from the Opposition BRS party regarding plant inspections. Official updates confirm that Revanth Reddy reviews power crisis Telangana matters to address acute fuel deficits impacting generation units at key state-run facilities. The administration ordered immediate measures to stabilize electricity supply for agricultural and industrial consumers across the region.
The high-level review was prompted by ongoing power shortages lasting nearly three months, agricultural protests at substations, and the opposition party’s decision to send inspection teams to state thermal stations. The Chief Minister directed TGGENCO to restore full installed capacity generation at the Yadadri Thermal Power Station before the upcoming Dasara festival.
Telangana CM Tackles Yadadri Thermal Plant Coal Shortage
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy is overseeing measures to address coal shortages at the Yadadri Thermal Power Station. Energy officials said the plant depends on G-9 grade coal under long-term agreements, while Singareni mines cannot currently meet the required volumes. The government has therefore decided to source coal from Coal India and Mahanadi Coalfields, with Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka coordinating with Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy.
Government estimates suggest that transporting coal to the Yadadri plant location imposes an additional logistics burden of approximately forty thousand crore rupees. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy questioned past decisions to locate the facility far from pithead coal mines, which exacerbated supply chain dependencies. Meanwhile, engineers are utilizing temporary lower-grade coal blends to maintain baseline electricity generation until primary coal shipments arrive.
