Kohli Gill Created History Against West Indies in 1st ODI. King Kohli captain Virat Kohli and current skipper Shubman Gill produced a historic partnership as India secured a commanding eight-wicket victory over West Indies in the first ODI at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Chasing a target of 296, Kohli became the fastest batter in cricket history to cross 15,000 ODI runs, reaching the landmark in his 303rd innings. The achievement places Kohli alongside Sachin Tendulkar as only the second player in ODI history to pass the milestone, beating Tendulkar’s record of 377 innings by a margin of 74 innings.

Composing a captain’s knock during the 296-run chase, Shubman Gill smashed his 10th ODI century off 96 balls, finishing on 110 off 108 deliveries. Gill reached the milestone by striking a boundary off West Indies pacer Jayden Seals, making him the fastest Indian batter to score 10 ODI centuries in just 67 innings. His effort surpassed former opener Shikhar Dhawan’s previous Indian record of 77 innings and equaled MS Dhoni’s career tally of 10 ODI centuries. (India vs West Indies Scorecard)

Kohli Gill created History with double century partnership:

After Rohit Sharma fell in the 12th over with 74 runs on the board, Gill and Kohli took control of the contest with a double-century partnership. Gill brought up his half-century in 49 balls before accelerating alongside Kohli to complete the chase with 50 balls to spare, giving India a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. With this performance, Gill also became the leading run-scorer in ODI cricket for the 2026 calendar year, crossing two hundreds and five fifties in ten matches.

Virat Kohli reached 15,000 ODI runs in 303 innings, achieving the landmark 74 innings faster than Sachin Tendulkar who took 377 innings. Shubman Gill holds the record for the fastest 10 ODI centuries for India, reaching the mark in 67 innings.
