They defeated Bahrain and China to secure India’s first track-and-field gold in Aichi-Nagoya. Vithya Ramraj completed a rare set of gold, silver, and bronze medals. The Indian women’s 4x400m relay team delivered a sensational performance to secure India’s first athletics gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games on Tuesday. The quartet of Kiran Pahal, Poovamma Machettira, Prachi, and Vithya Ramaraj clocked a season-best time of 3 minutes 29.69 seconds to finish ahead of continental rivals Bahrain and China. This triumph extends India’s long-standing dominance in the women’s 4x400m relay event, continuing a medal-winning legacy that dates back to 1982.

Tamil Nadu sprinter Vithya Ramaraj achieved a personal career landmark during the Day 10 track events. By adding the relay gold to her earlier silver in the mixed 4x400m relay and bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles, she became the first Indian athlete at these Games to secure a gold, silver, and bronze medal in a single edition. Her powerful anchor leg sealed the top spot on the podium after crucial setups from seniors Kiran Pahal, Poovamma, and Prachi. (Indian medals in Asian games 2026)
