Gross GST collection rises in September by 14.7% year-on-year to reach nearly 2.04 lakh crore rupees. Official tax figures released by the government highlight a robust fiscal performance driven by increased domestic trade and significant growth in import revenues ahead of the festive season.
Domestic Goods and Services Tax (DGST) revenue increased by 10.1% to touch 1.38 lakh crore rupees compared to 1.25 lakh crore rupees in the corresponding period last year. Import tax collections demonstrated higher growth, rising 25.9% year-on-year to 65,525 crore rupees up from 52,031 crore rupees.
Why Did IGST Surge Sharper Than CGST And SGST Categories?
Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) collections, which combine both domestic and import-related transactions, climbed to 1.20 lakh crore rupees. Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) collections stood at 37,762 crore rupees, while State Goods and Services Tax collections were registered at 45,363 crore rupees during the month.
Net Goods and Services Tax revenue rose by 18.1% year-on-year to reach 1.77 lakh crore rupees after processing overall tax refunds. Financial analysts note that maintaining monthly gross collections above the two lakh crore rupee mark reflects steady consumer demand, high tax compliance, and expanding economic activity across sectors.
