Netanyahu warned after the Flydubai cockpit attack that any power found to have sent the accused co-pilot would face a “very heavy price.” Investigators are examining the motive and whether anyone else was involved. Netanyahu said Israel was determined to establish who, if anyone, stood behind the alleged attacker.
The incident occurred aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073, travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Indian Captain Smit Machchhar was seriously injured during the cockpit confrontation. Despite his injuries, Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door, allowing passengers and crew members to intervene.
Netanyahu Warns Against Outside Role In Flydubai Attack
Netanyahu said that if investigators determine someone sent the accused co-pilot, those responsible would face consequences. The Israeli Prime Minister stressed that authorities want to establish whether the accused acted independently or received outside assistance or direction. Other Flydubai pilots aboard the aircraft took control during the emergency and safely landed in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, as investigations continue into the attack and the co-pilot’s background.
The UAE is leading the investigation because the aircraft is registered there. Investigators are examining motives, communications, background information and potential outside links connected to the incident. Netanyahu has claimed that available information indicated the accused co-pilot had undergone Islamist radical indoctrination. That statement remains an attributed claim rather than a final investigative finding.
The Flydubai attack has brought renewed attention to aviation security and pilot screening. Israel has announced tighter checks involving pilots operating flights into the country following the incident. The central unanswered question is whether the cockpit attack was the act of one individual or involved outside support. Investigators have not announced a final conclusion.
