Vijay Takes On Stalin Over Controversial Campaign Remarks

on

Vijay Stalin remarks have triggered a fresh political confrontation in Tamil Nadu ahead of the Dharapuram Assembly bypoll, with TVK accusing DMK president MK Stalin of making derogatory comments about its candidate P Sathyabama.Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK chief C Joseph Vijay condemned Stalin’s remarks, alleging they mocked Sathyabama’s physical appearance and crossed acceptable limits of political discourse. Vijay said personal attacks against women should not become part of election campaigning.

The controversy began after Stalin addressed a campaign meeting in Dharapuram. TVK alleges that his comments about Sathyabama amounted to body-shaming and were unrelated to her political record or candidature. Stalin had criticised Sathyabama after her switch from the AIADMK to TVK.TVK subsequently approached the Election Commission, alleging a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The party sought cancellation of Stalin’s star campaigner status and requested directions for further legal action over the remarks.

Vijay Challenges Stalin Over Remarks Against Sathyabama

Vijay has criticised MK Stalin over remarks concerning TVK candidate P Sathyabama, while the DMK maintains that Stalin was referring to her political switches rather than her physical appearance. The controversy has also drawn criticism beyond TVK. CPM state secretary P Shanmugam reportedly said the remarks were inappropriate for a leader of Stalin’s stature, adding to the political debate over campaign language ahead of the election.

The row comes during an intense final phase of campaigning for the Dharapuram bypoll scheduled for October 6. With TVK and DMK trading accusations, the controversy has shifted attention toward campaign conduct and the treatment of women candidates. The Election Commission complaint now places the dispute before electoral authorities. Any decision on TVK’s demands will determine whether the controversy produces formal action against Stalin. Until then, both parties are expected to continue defending their positions as voters prepare for polling before polling this week.
