Chakkora Review: Weak Comedy, Predictable Romance

on

Chakkora– Lunar Love Bird, the Telugu romantic drama directed by debutant Manga Srinivas, arrived in theatres today. Featuring newcomers Sravan and Malaika T Vasupal, the film explores love, separation and emotional obsession. However, predictable storytelling and outdated treatment overshadow its central concept. #Rating 1.75/5.The story revolves around Ravana, portrayed by Sravan, a carefree youngster who falls in love with Julie, played by Malaika T Vasupal. Julie, a doctor, initially rejects his romantic advances before agreeing to his proposal under an unusual condition.

She challenges Ravana to avoid contacting or meeting her for 24 hours. Although he completes the challenge, Julie mysteriously disappears, forcing him to search for answers about her whereabouts. The film draws inspiration from the mythical Chakora bird, traditionally associated with longing for the moon. Director Manga Srinivas uses this symbolism to represent Ravana’s determination to reunite with Julie.
Sravan delivers a sincere performance, particularly during emotional sequences, while Malaika T Vasupal maintains a restrained screen presence. However, their efforts cannot overcome the screenplay’s shortcomings.

Chakkora Disappoints Despite Its Melodious Music

Chakkora offers occasional relief through Prince Henry’s melodious songs and background score, but its technical execution fails to elevate the film. Repetitive romantic sequences, predictable twists and unnatural rhyming dialogues weaken the storytelling. Sudarshan’s comedy fails to generate sufficient laughs, while experienced actors Indraja and Brahmaji remain underutilised, further limiting the film’s overall entertainment value.

The second half becomes particularly sluggish, with stretched scenes and limited narrative surprises. Cinematography by Ruppa G Krsna and editing by Marthand K. Venkatesh offer little improvement to the overall pacing.Ultimately, Chakkora presents an interesting romantic metaphor but fails to translate it into engaging cinema. Despite committed performances and enjoyable music, the outdated screenplay and weak execution make it difficult to recommend
