The Assam Cabinet adopted 75 resolutions celebrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public life, highlighting major achievements in infrastructure, economic investment, and security. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a special 90-minute cabinet meeting in Guwahati on Friday to review Assam’s transformation under Modi’s leadership as Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister.
The resolutions highlighted major industrial investments, including the ₹27,000-crore semiconductor assembly and testing facility at Jagiroad and the ₹28,000-crore expansion of Numaligarh Refinery. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized that sustained peace, improved connectivity, and strategic investments have strengthened Assam’s economic growth and emerging role as a gateway to Northeast India.
Why Is Assam Developing the Kaziranga Corridor?
Assam’s major infrastructure projects highlighted in the cabinet resolutions included the proposed Gohpur-Numaligarh twin-tube road tunnel, Guwahati Ring Road, Kaziranga elevated corridor, and Silchar-Saurashtra high-speed corridor. These projects are expected to improve transportation, strengthen regional connectivity, facilitate trade, and create new opportunities for businesses and industries across the state.
The cabinet also recognized peace agreements with Bodo, Karbi, Adivasi, and United Liberation Front of Asom groups for resolving longstanding conflicts. Other achievements included the establishment of AIIMS Guwahati and IIM Guwahati, UNESCO World Heritage recognition for the Charaideo Moidams, and Assamese receiving Classical Language status in 2024. Modi has visited Assam 36 times since becoming Prime Minister, reflecting the Centre’s focus on the region under its Act East Policy.
The resolutions further highlighted investment commitments exceeding ₹5 lakh crore announced during the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit. Major energy projects, including the Barauni-Guwahati natural gas pipeline and the Namrup ammonia-urea complex, were also recognized for their contribution to industrial development. The Assam government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the state’s economy, expanding infrastructure, and aligning regional development with India’s broader growth objectives.
