NEET accountability has become a key concern after a parliamentary panel recommended establishing a dedicated legislative mechanism to ensure accountability of the National Testing Agency (NTA) following irregularities in the NEET UG examination. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education stressed that public trust in national entrance examinations is essential for social justice and institutional integrity. It urged the Ministry of Education to develop a statutory framework for stronger oversight.
The committee highlighted that allegations of paper leaks and examination cancellations have raised concerns about the credibility of national-level entrance tests. It stated that a clear legal framework could establish accountability and strengthen procedures governing the conduct of competitive examinations.
How Will NEET Paper Leaks Be Prevented?
To prevent NEET examination paper leaks, the panel recommended creating a diverse and continuously updated question bank. It also called for stronger physical and digital security measures to protect confidential examination materials and reduce the risk of unauthorised access.
The committee further advised reviewing examination centre selection procedures, strengthening monitoring at confidential printing facilities and improving security arrangements. These measures aim to address vulnerabilities in examination management and improve the transparency of the testing process.
The proposed legislative mechanism would seek to strengthen institutional accountability and improve oversight of the NTA. The committee expects stronger monitoring, transparent reporting and timely corrective action to help restore students’ confidence in national entrance examinations and protect the integrity of NEET UG.
