Indian opener Smriti Mandhana created history by becoming the leading run-scorer in women’s T20 International cricket during the Asian Games 2026 semi-final against Bangladesh. Scoring 37 off 19 balls, she surpassed New Zealand legend Suzie Bates’ record of 4,758 runs. Mandhana also became the first Indian woman to hit 100 sixes in T20Is as India set up a gold medal clash against Sri Lanka.
Smriti Mandhana broke the world record during India’s semi-final match against Bangladesh in Japan. Needing just eight runs before the match to overtake Suzie Bates, Mandhana reached the milestone early in her innings and brought her T20I total to 4,788 runs. Her 37-run knock included five boundaries and two sixes, establishing an aggressive 72-run opening stand with Shafali Verma inside the powerplay. With her second six of the match, Mandhana also achieved the distinction of becoming the first Indian female cricketer to cross 100 sixes in T20 Internationals.
This achievement follows another milestone set by Mandhana, who recently surpassed Mithali Raj’s record of 10,868 runs to become the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket across all formats combined.

Behind Mandhana’s 4,788 runs on the all-time T20I chart are Suzie Bates (4,758 runs), Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur (4,287 runs), Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu (4,282 runs), and New Zealand’s Sophie Devine (3,817 runs). Mandhana’s fast start helped lay the platform for India’s total of 195/4, which ultimately sealed their place in the gold medal match.
