8 Changes In Indian ODI Squad For West Indies Series

on

The BCCI announced a heavily revised 15-member ODI squad led by Shubman Gill for the upcoming home series against the West Indies. With eight changes from the England tour due to the clash with the Asian Games 2026, KL Rahul returns as vice-captain. Uncapped players Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi earned maiden call-ups, while Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj returned to the 50-over setup.

The Senior Men’s Selection Committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, announced significant changes to India’s 15-member ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against the West Indies. The overhaul comes as several key white-ball players are participating in the 2026 Asian Games in Japan under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy. To manage the dual commitments, the selectors fielded two distinct national squads, naming KL Rahul as vice-captain for the ODI side in Gill’s setup.

Eight players were brought into the squad compared to the previous ODI series against England. Returning players include Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Punjab batter Naman Dhir and Jammu & Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi earned their maiden senior ODI call-ups following consistent domestic and county performances.

Why starts out of ODI Squad (Ind vs WI squad):

Due to their inclusion in the Asian Games squad, regular white-ball members Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, and Arshdeep Singh were left out of the ODI team. Additionally, Harsh Dubey and Prince Yadav missed out on selection. The selection committee retained seven players from the previous squad to maintain core stability heading toward the 2027 ODI World Cup. Captain Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, and Gurnoor Brar retained their positions.

The changes were necessary because the West Indies ODI series overlaps with the 2026 Asian Games, requiring several regular players to represent India in Japan. Punjab all-rounder Naman Dhir and Jammu & Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi earned their maiden ODI call-ups.
