Araku Coffee global market expansion has become a key focus for the Andhra Pradesh government, with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directing officials to develop a comprehensive strategy to promote the premium coffee internationally.During a review meeting, Naidu emphasised that Araku Coffee should be positioned as a globally recognised brand while protecting its distinctive identity and connection with tribal farmers. He asked officials to explore international marketing opportunities and strengthen branding to improve its competitiveness.
The government sees international markets as an opportunity to increase demand, improve farmer incomes and create greater economic value from coffee cultivated in the tribal regions of the state.Naidu directed officials to study leading coffee-producing regions and understand successful cultivation, processing, branding and marketing models. Colombia was identified as one of the international markets whose practices could provide useful insights for developing Andhra Pradesh’s coffee sector.
Araku Coffee GI Identity Gets Stronger Protection Push
The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of protecting Araku Coffee’s Geographical Indication identity. Strong GI protection can help preserve the product’s regional authenticity while preventing misuse of the Araku name in domestic and international markets. The government plans to expand coffee cultivation in suitable areas while improving productivity and quality. Officials have been asked to examine opportunities for bringing additional tribal land under coffee cultivation and strengthening support systems for growers.
Better processing infrastructure is another part of the strategy. Improving post-harvest practices, packaging and value addition could help Araku Coffee compete more effectively in premium international markets. The global branding push is also expected to highlight the distinctive characteristics of coffee grown in the Araku region and its connection with tribal communities.
For farmers, stronger international demand could create improved market access and potentially increase returns if supported by effective processing, branding and supply-chain systems. The Araku Coffee global market strategy therefore combines cultivation expansion, GI protection, international promotion and improved processing. The government’s next challenge will be translating these plans into sustained global demand while ensuring tribal coffee growers receive meaningful economic benefits from the brand’s expansion.
