Bihar Gets 100 More MBBS Seats

on

Bihar is set to receive a substantial boost to healthcare infrastructure and academic opportunities following new regulatory approvals issued by central medical authorities. Official notifications confirm that the state gets 100 more MBBS seats starting from the 2026-27 academic session, aimed at strengthening regional doctor density.

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued official Letters of Permission to Shri Ram Janaki Medical College and Hospital in Samastipur and Government Medical College in Chhapra, located in Saran district. Both state-run institutions gained authorization to admit fifty MBBS students each, adding one hundred government seats to the state’s total medical seat matrix.

How Will Bihar’s New Medical Seats Benefit Students?

Opening undergraduate seats in Samastipur and Saran districts enables young students to pursue medical education closer to their hometowns, reducing reliance on distant urban centres in Bihar. Establishing functional medical colleges also strengthens attached public teaching hospitals, giving surrounding rural populations greater access to specialized treatment, modern diagnostic equipment, and expanded emergency health services.

State leadership expressed gratitude to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for expanding regional educational quotas. Health department officials assured that necessary clinical faculty, administrative staff, laboratory equipment, and library resources are fully deployed to guarantee high academic standards and maintain compliance with statutory regulatory norms.

The creation of these seats represents a vital step toward decentralizing medical education across Bihar. As these new batches commence coursework, the expansion will continuously produce qualified healthcare professionals to support public health networks for decades to come.
