Cyberabad Police To Trial Dedicated IT Corridor Bus Lane

on

The Cyberabad counterflow bus lane proposal could introduce a new way of moving TGSRTC buses through Hyderabad’s heavily congested IT corridor. Cyberabad Traffic Police are preparing to test a counterflow Bus Rapid Transit arrangement on the JNTU–Hitec City–Raidurgam–Financial District route.A counterflow bus lane gives buses dedicated road space where they travel opposite the normal direction of general traffic. The proposed section would remain restricted to buses and operate under traffic controls to prevent conflicts with other vehicles.

The proposal follows a traffic assessment conducted by the Foundation for Resources and Innovations Policy in coordination with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council. The route covers JNTU Junction, Hitec City, Raidurgam Metro Station, Waverock and Financial District. Officials consider the Raidurgam Metro Station junction a crucial point because buses leaving the counterflow section would need to merge with regular traffic. Authorities are therefore examining traffic movement, merging conditions and potential vehicle conflicts.

Cyberabad Looks To Speed Up Buses With Dedicated Lane

Cyberabad’s proposed counterflow bus lane aims to improve bus capacity and travel efficiency without requiring major changes to existing road infrastructure. Around 15 buses currently operate every hour along the corridor, while authorities are studying the possibility of adding more services. Officials are comparing counterflow and curb-side BRT options and examining improvements to bus stops, shelters, footpaths, entry and exit points to ensure smoother public transport movement.

TGSRTC has also discussed bus entry and exit points, stopping locations, turning movements and passenger boarding arrangements.Traffic officials identified roadside parking, encroachments, poor lane discipline, unauthorised stopping, pedestrian crossings and junction conflicts as congestion causes. Inadequate bus bays, shelters, footpaths and pedestrian facilities also contribute.
