Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant will inaugurate India’s pioneering Victim Rights Centre today at the Bihar State Legal Services Authority premises in Patna, establishing a transformative milestone in legal aid administration.
The CJI Surya Kant Victim Rights Centre will operate as a single-window legal support facility designed to streamline administrative procedures for crime victims. Instead of navigating separate bureaucratic processes across police stations, hospitals, trial courts, and social welfare departments, victims can access comprehensive legal representation, medical aid, and compensation entitlements through one unified entry point.
How Does First Victim Rights Centre Shield Crime Victims?
By maintaining a single consolidated record for every registered case, India’s First Victim Rights Centre eliminates the requirement for victims to repeatedly recount traumatic incidents to different officials. Operating under strict internal timelines, the facility coordinates directly with law enforcement agencies, Child Welfare Committees, and medical centers to ensure legal relief is verified and delivered before case closure.
During the inauguration event, Chief Justice Surya Kant will launch a dedicated Transgender Helpline to assist community members with identity certificates, healthcare access, housing rights, and employment opportunities. He will additionally flag off a fleet of multi-utility legal aid vehicles to enhance grassroots legal awareness across remote rural districts of Bihar.
Operating initially as a twelve-month pilot program in Patna district, the initiative relies on existing administrative infrastructure and judicial personnel without requiring new statutory legislation. Following a comprehensive structural evaluation by a Patna High Court steering committee, legal authorities plan to replicate the victim-centric operational model across District Legal Services Authorities statewide and nationally.
