A social media post by entrepreneur Ankit Pandey has gone viral after he recounted a college-era debate on feminism that resulted in an unexpected ₹21,000 repair bill.
According to Pandey’s post on X, he and his then-girlfriend—who had joined JPMorgan post-graduation and frequently discussed gender capabilities—were stuck in heavy traffic when the topic of women’s driving skills arose.
Determined to prove that women could effortlessly navigate congested roads, she took the wheel. Shortly after taking over, she collided with a BMW. The luxury car’s owner demanded ₹21,000 for damages, an expense Pandey ended up covering in full.
Reflecting on the incident years later, after she moved to Australia for her career and he founded a startup in India, Pandey observed that the irony was what truly stuck with him: while she aimed to prove her total self-reliance, he was the one left footing the bill.
The viral story sparked widespread amusement online, with netizens debating the humour and pointing out that true equality should have involved splitting the resulting repair costs.
