Senior Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s return to competitive cricket has suffered another setback after scan reports confirmed a fresh injury to his right shin. Medical advice requiring two weeks of complete rest has effectively ruled him out of the upcoming white-ball tour of New Zealand. The five-match T20I series against New Zealand begins on October 22, followed by a five-match ODI series, leaving no realistic window for his recovery and match preparation. The setback also forces Pandya out of the India A squad for the three-match ODI series against Australia A starting October 6, where selectors originally intended to evaluate his match fitness.
Pandya has been out of competitive action for five months since the conclusion of IPL 2026. To focus on his fitness, he relocated to Bengaluru to undergo dedicated rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE). However, recurring physical issues have repeatedly halted his progress, marking his third injury complication over the past four months. (Hardik Pandya ruled out of NZ series)
Hardik Pandya bad luck continues:
He previously missed the Afghanistan series due to knee pain during fielding drills, followed by setbacks during preparation for the tours of England and Ireland. Head of BCCI’s medical panel, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, is scheduled to review Pandya’s latest scan reports upon returning from Japan to determine the official rehabilitation roadmap.
With Pandya’s potential return now deferred to the Zimbabwe ODI series in January 2027 or domestic competitions like the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Indian team management continues to develop alternative seam-bowling all-rounders. Young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been integrated into the national setup to gain international exposure, while Suryansh Shedge remains under observation as a secondary long-term option.
Hardik Pandya suffered a fresh injury to his right shin, requiring a mandatory two-week rest period before starting rehabilitation. Following his exclusion from the New Zealand tour, Pandya’s potential return window shifts to the Zimbabwe ODI series scheduled for January 2027, pending fitness clearance.
