The Indian women’s cricket team declined to accept the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi after defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in Dubai. Following protocol set by the Indian men’s team in 2025, the team skipped the official trophy presentation. India posted 183/5 behind half-centuries from Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, before Shree Charani took four wickets to bowl out Sri Lanka for 111.
After winning the Asia cup trophy for the 8th time, the Indian women’s refused to receive the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan Federal Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Following their 72-run victory against Sri Lanka, the Indian squad refrained from participating in the main trophy presentation ceremony.
The decision aligned with the stance adopted by the Indian men’s team during the 2025 T20 Asia Cup, where players refused to take the trophy from Naqvi due to political tensions. During the post-match sequence in Dubai, BCCI officials Devajit Saikia and Rajiv Shukla presented team fielder Nandani Sharma with an internal fielding award while the squad remained inside the pavilion area.
Indian Women’s Team refuse to Take Asia Cup Trophy:
The presentation ceremony was delayed by nearly an hour as ACC officials attempted to resolve the impasse. BCCI representatives proposed that ACC deputy chair Khalid Al Zarooni present the trophy instead, but Naqvi declined the alternative arrangement. Consequently, the official ceremony concluded with Sri Lanka receiving their runners-up medals and cheque, while the champions’ trophy remained unawarded on the field.
In the match, India posted 183/5 in 20 overs after openers Shafali Verma (68) and Smriti Mandhana (59) constructed a 129-run opening partnership. India’s bowling unit then dismissed Sri Lanka for 111 runs, with Shree Charani taking 4/20 and Deepti Sharma claiming 3/19 to secure the championship.
