Iran Welcomes End Of US Military Presence In Iraq
Iran and allied armed groups portrayed the withdrawal of the final US forces from bases in Iraq as a victory. Washington and Baghdad had agreed on the withdrawal plan in 2024, bringing an end to a military presence dating back to the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. Tehran has long sought the removal of American forces from the region, while analysts have raised concerns that Iran-aligned groups could gain greater influence following the US withdrawal.
Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a 26-page letter addressing American voters and urging them to remove politicians it blamed for the war. The intervention comes ahead of US congressional elections. The wider conflict continues to affect both economies and regional security. Energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz remain disrupted, while higher fuel prices have created economic pressure in the United States. Iran has also faced a deepening domestic economic crisis during the conflict.
