JNTU Sulthanpur suspended two senior B.Tech students accused of ragging and physically assaulting a second-year student on campus. The disciplinary action followed protests by junior students demanding stronger measures against the accused. The incident triggered concerns over student safety and the enforcement of anti-ragging regulations at the university.
The controversy began after Ruthvik, a second-year Electrical and Electronics Engineering student and member of the anti-ragging committee, was allegedly subjected to repeated harassment and physical assault by seniors. After suffering injuries during the altercation, the victim required medical attention, leading junior classmates to protest management’s initial delay in taking action.
JNTU Students Stage Protest Against Ragging Incident At College
JNTU students staged a rasta-roko on National Highway 161 near the university entrance, bringing traffic to a standstill. The protesters demanded the immediate suspension and expulsion of the seniors accused in the ragging incident and refused to disperse until university officials issued concrete disciplinary orders.
JNTU-Sulthanpur Principal Viswanth Raj personally met with the protesting students on NH-161 and read out official suspension letters. The order suspended final-year B.Tech Mechanical Engineering students Karthik C and Mahadev Tej, prohibiting them from entering campus grounds or continuing academic coursework until formal inquiries conclude.
