The UDF government faces unity test in Keralam as United Democratic Front (UDF) convener Adoor Prakash reiterated his concerns regarding the lack of coalition consultations on high-level administrative postings. Speaking at a press conference in Pathanamthitta, the senior leader highlighted growing friction within the ruling alliance. He expressed frustration that crucial political decisions were being executed without prior discussions or formal front meetings, creating an internal coordination crisis for the ruling coalition.
Prakash pointed to recent cabinet-rank appointments made by the state government, including naming Indian Union Muslim League leader Dr. M.K. Muneer as Administrative Reforms Commission chairperson and Forward Bloc national general secretary G. Devarajan as Keralam special representative in New Delhi. While emphasizing that he does not question the individual merit of either appointee, he stressed that major decisions with political ramifications require collective consultation across all constituent parties.
How Did Adoor Prakash Address UDF Communication Gaps In Keralam?
UDF convener Adoor Prakash revealed that the state committee has met only once since the government assumed office four months ago in Keralam. He noted that learning about major government decisions through news media left him unable to answer public queries regarding front policies. While acknowledging that the Chief Minister’s demanding schedule and recent natural disasters might have delayed meetings, Prakash insisted that alliance protocols must be strictly respected.
Prakash announced his decision to report these ongoing coordination concerns directly to the All India Congress Committee high command, which officially appointed him to the convener post. Meanwhile, senior Congress leaders and ministers called for greater internal unity, urging leadership to resolve administrative differences constructively through dignified dialogue rather than public confrontation.
