Madhya Pradesh (MP) Police achieved a major cyber crime breakthrough after an Rs 11 crore matrimonial fraud racket busted in Mandsaur district resulted in 6 arrests. The interstate criminal network operated across multiple states, exploiting individuals seeking life partners through online matrimonial websites by deploying sophisticated deceptive tactics.
Gang members created fake profiles posing as wealthy non-resident Indians on leading matrimonial portals. After establishing digital contact and gaining the trust of victims, the fraudsters claimed to send valuable gifts or overseas currency, subsequently demanding money under the pretext of customs duty, clearance charges, and processing taxes.
What Evidence Did Police Recover Raids?
Police raids conducted in Jaipur and Bihar led to the capture of 5 suspects and the primary mastermind. The criminal syndicate arranged mule bank accounts and SIM cards from Delhi, Agra, Firozabad, and Bhopal to channel stolen funds. Extracted cash was deposited via cash deposit machines and moved through layered accounts to evade immediate tracking.
Law enforcement officers seized 22 Android smartphones, thirty mule SIM cards, five ATM cards, and various bank passbooks used in the criminal operations. Investigators also froze over Rs 8 lakh in active bank accounts to facilitate legal return procedures for the affected victims.
Police officials at Shamgarh station confirmed ongoing technical analysis of over 150 mule accounts to uncover broader international linkages. Authorities suspect overseas callers assisted the gang in targeting individuals, and further arrests remain expected as digital forensic analysis continues.
