A shocking incident of highway vigilante harassment has surfaced from Odisha’s Dhenkanal district after a video depicting a young couple being surrounded, abused, and physically assaulted by a group of men went viral across social media platforms.
The incident took place on the road connecting Dhenkanal town to the famous Kapilash temple shrine. The couple was riding on a motorcycle when a group of intoxicated villagers intercepted them near Bhanragada village. The viral footage captured several men harassing the duo, while the distressed woman was seen repeatedly pleading with the group to let them leave safely. Following a Zero FIR transferred from Choudwar to Gondia Police Station, law enforcement officials registered a criminal case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.

Police apprehended three primary accused, identified as Saroj Nayak, Samir Nayak, and Sangram Rath, while launching further search operations to identify additional suspects captured in the video footage in this incident. The disturbing visuals drew strong widespread condemnation from citizens online who raised serious concerns regarding tourist safety along major highways, demanding strict legal action against vigilantism.
Senior police officials stated that law enforcement maintains zero tolerance for public harassment and assured that comprehensive security measures are being implemented to protect commuters traveling along tourist corridors across the district.
