Rahul Gandhi Demands Transparency In Election Commission
Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders have raised concerns over alleged irregularities in electoral roll revisions, questioning the Election Commission’s independence and demanding greater transparency and accountability. Their protests follow reports of internal disagreements within the Election Commission regarding voter list revision decisions. However, the Election Commission and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party have rejected allegations of electoral manipulation, maintaining that electoral procedures are being followed in accordance with established rules.
The Election Commission has maintained that disagreements are normal within a multimember institution and that decisions were ultimately taken unanimously.Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other INDIA bloc leaders have supported continued demonstrations demanding accountability. The protests have also raised questions about the balance between public order restrictions and the democratic right to peaceful assembly.
Delhi Police defended their intervention by referring to legal requirements governing demonstrations in the capital.
Opposition representatives, meanwhile, alleged that authorities were preventing elected lawmakers from expressing legitimate concerns. The confrontation reflects growing political tensions surrounding electoral administration and public confidence in democratic institutions. With Gandhi refusing to withdraw his demands, further opposition demonstrations remain possible as the dispute over electoral transparency continues across India.
