The upcoming first ODI against West Indies at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram sets the stage for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to achieve a historic partnership milestone. Adding 18 more runs together against the Caribbean side will elevate them as the first batting pair in ODI cricket history to accumulate 1,000 partnership runs against West Indies.
Across international cricket, 23 batting duos have accumulated over 1,000 partnership runs against various opposition teams, but no pair has crossed the milestone against West Indies. The “Ro-Ko” pair currently holds 982 runs in 15 ODI innings against West Indies at an average exceeding 70, featuring four century stands and two half-century partnerships. Their highest partnership tally against a single nation remains 1,454 runs against Australia, while Desmond Haynes and Richie Richardson hold the all-time partnership record against a single opponent with 1,484 runs against Pakistan. Kohli to break Sachin’s record (ROKO):
The three-match ODI series presents former captain Virat Kohli with a direct opportunity to surpass four major records held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Standing just 59 runs away from reaching 15,000 ODI runs, Kohli is positioned to become the fastest batter in cricket history to reach the milestone, breaking Tendulkar’s longstanding record.
In List-A cricket, Tendulkar holds the record for the most centuries with 60 tons. Currently sitting on 59 List-A centuries, Kohli needs two more hundreds to stand alone at the top of the all-time list.
Kohli is also closing in on two home-soil records established by Tendulkar. Having scored 41 international centuries in India, Kohli requires two more home centuries to break Tendulkar’s record of 42 international centuries on Indian soil.
Additionally, Tendulkar holds the all-time record for the most ODI runs on Indian soil with 6,976 runs across 164 matches. Kohli currently stands at 6,867 runs in 130 matches, leaving him just 110 runs short of overtaking Tendulkar’s tally to become India’s highest run-scorer in home ODIs.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli require 18 partnership runs in the upcoming ODI series to complete 1,000 runs as a pair against West Indies. Virat Kohli needs 59 runs to reach 15,000 runs in ODI cricket, which would make him the fastest player to hit the landmark.
