Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay hailed TVK’s bypoll victories in the Dharapuram and Madurantakam Assembly constituencies as a triumph for democracy and political decorum. Following the announcement of the election results on Friday, he thanked voters for supporting the party and rejecting alleged cash distribution tactics and personal attacks during the campaign.
In Madurantakam, TVK candidate K. Maragatham Kumaravel secured victory against rivals from the DMK and AIADMK. Meanwhile, P. Sathyabama won the Dharapuram Assembly constituency after maintaining a consistent lead throughout the 23 rounds of vote counting. The victories marked a significant electoral achievement for TVK in the two constituencies.
Did Tamil Nadu voters reject money power in the bypolls?
Tamil Nadu CM Vijay attributed the party’s success to voters who favoured ethical political practices over monetary inducements and derogatory campaign remarks. He particularly criticised personal attacks and disrespectful comments against women, describing the election outcome as a public response to such political tactics. He emphasised that democratic values and respectful political discourse should remain central to electoral campaigns.
The Chief Minister also responded to critics who had questioned his campaign strategy and schedule in the two constituencies. He stated that the election results provided a fitting response to those who had mocked the party’s approach. Vijay stressed that the victories belonged to the people rather than being a personal achievement for him or the party leadership.
Vijay expressed gratitude to TVK alliance partners, party functionaries and grassroots workers for their efforts during the election campaign. He reiterated his commitment to transparent governance, ethical politics and dignified public communication. The victories in Dharapuram and Madurantakam, he said, reflected the importance of public participation and democratic principles in Tamil Nadu.
