Nepal Floods: Tea Break Saves 28 Pilgrims

on

A group of 28 pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka safely returned home after surviving catastrophic Nepal floods during their Kailash Manasarovar Yatra. Pemmasani Venkataramana, MD of Sign In Travels, shared that a brief 10-minute tea break delayed their bus, preventing them from crossing the Syabrubesi bridge right before it collapsed into raging floodwaters. Meanwhile, India dispatched emergency humanitarian aid to Nepal.

The 28-member pilgrim group, comprising travelers from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka, was en route to the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra near the Nepal-Tibet border. According to Sign In Travels Managing Director Pemmasani Venkataramana, the group stopped for a brief tea break, delaying their transit by just ten minutes. This slight delay prevented their bus from reaching the Syabrubesi bridge at the exact moment it was washed away by flash floods, allowing their driver to quickly alter the route and reach safety.

Krishnayya explains how they were saved from Nepal Floods:

Group member Mutyala Krishnayya from Visakhapatnam revealed that their  entire Kailash Manasarovar Yatra schedule had been pushed back by three days due to administrative delays in visa processing. Had the tour proceeded according to its original itinerary without the visa delay, the group would have been directly crossing the Syabrubesi bridge during the peak surge of the floodwaters.

The disastrous flooding along the Nepal-Tibet border claimed hundreds of lives and damaged critical infrastructure across multiple districts. In response, India extended immediate disaster relief support to Nepal. An 11-member specialist team landed in Kathmandu on August 29, followed by a dedicated Indian Air Force aircraft delivering emergency humanitarian aid supplies and technical support, as confirmed by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
