Team India’s eight-wicket victory handed us an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series, making it only the second time in 50-over cricket history that a target of 400-plus runs was successfully hunted down. The chase joins South Africa’s iconic 438-run chase against Australia in 2006 as the highest second-innings totals achieved in ODI cricket. (India vs West Indies 2nd ODI scorecard)

Shubman Gill Unbeaten 223 Leads Team India To Victory:

Indian captain Shubman Gill delivered an extraordinary batting performance, remaining unbeaten on 223 off 133 deliveries with 26 fours and 8 sixes. Gill brought up his first hundred in 62 balls before accelerating to reach his double century in 117 balls, completing the victory with 39 balls remaining.

Rohit Sharma set the stage early with a aggressive 101 off 75 balls, crossing the 12,000 ODI run milestone in the process as India’s top order dominated the visitors’ attack.

West Indies Record Total Outshined In Guwahati:

Earlier in the day, West Indies posted their highest-ever ODI total of 405/7 after being inserted to bat first. The historic first innings featured three individual centuries from John Campbell (101), captain Shai Hope (104), and Amir Jangoo (114), establishing a record total that was ultimately overhauled by India.

With the series secured, both teams will travel to New Chandigarh for the third and final ODI of the series. India’s highest successful run chase in ODI history is 406 runs, achieved against West Indies in Guwahati by scoring 406/2 in 43.3 overs. A 400-plus target has been successfully chased twice in ODI history: South Africa chasing 435 against Australia in 2006, and India chasing 406 against West Indies in 2026.
