The Telangana government has declared September 25 a closed holiday in view of the Ganesh idol immersion procession in Hyderabad. The Telangana holiday will apply to government offices, schools and colleges in Hyderabad-Secunderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.
The decision has been taken because Hyderabad is scheduled to witness the major Ganesh idol immersion procession on Friday. The government order was issued by Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju on September 23.
Telangana Holiday Order Covers Key Districts
The Telangana holiday covers government offices, schools and colleges located in and around the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Educational institutions and government establishments in Ranga Reddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts are also included in the order. November 14, which falls on the second Saturday, has been declared a working day in lieu of the holiday. The arrangement applies to the government offices, schools and colleges covered by the September 25 order.
The holiday comes as Hyderabad prepares for a large-scale Ganesh immersion procession marking the culmination of the festival. Authorities have been making arrangements along procession routes and immersion points across the city.The Hyderabad administration has prepared routes, installed barricades and deployed cranes around key stretches near Hussain Sagar. Officials are also working to complete the immersion process in a single day on September 25.
The Telangana holiday is also expected to help reduce movement on roads during the procession and ease pressure on the city’s transport network. Traffic police and civic authorities have been coordinating arrangements to manage the expected crowds and vehicle movement.South Central Railway has separately announced special MMTS services during the nights of September 25-26 and September 26-27 to handle additional passenger demand during the immersion festivities.For residents covered by the government order, September 25 will therefore be a holiday, while November 14 will become a working day in compensation. The arrangement specifically covers Hyderabad-Secunderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri.
