Telangana Voters Get Relief From In-Person SIR Hearings

on

Telangana SIR hearings will no longer require electors to personally appear before Electoral Registration Officers, marking an important procedural change in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the State.Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy clarified that voters identified for further verification during the SIR process can have their documents examined without mandatory physical attendance. Electoral authorities can use online and other authorised methods to complete verification.

Electors who receive notices or whose records require additional scrutiny will not automatically have to visit an election office for a face-to-face hearing. Instead, officials can examine documents and complete necessary verification through alternative mechanisms. The change is expected to reduce inconvenience, particularly for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, people living away from their registered constituencies and others who may find physical attendance difficult.

Telangana SIR Scrutiny Continues Without Physical Visits

Telangana is continuing the Special Intensive Revision to verify electoral roll information and ensure eligible citizens remain correctly registered. Election officials will examine voter records and supporting documents whenever clarification is required. The removal of compulsory in-person hearings does not end the verification process. Electoral Registration Officers will continue assessing documents, voter eligibility and information submitted during the revision, with the change primarily providing alternative ways to conduct scrutiny without requiring mandatory physical appearances.

For voters, the clarification provides greater flexibility in responding to verification requirements. Digital or other authorised processes can reduce travel, waiting times and administrative pressure while allowing election officials to continue reviewing electoral records. The Telangana SIR hearings change also places greater importance on clear communication between election authorities and electors. Voters receiving notices should carefully follow official instructions and submit the requested information through authorised channels.
