Toyota Innova HyCross flex fuel launches soon in October as Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari confirmed receiving an official invitation for the landmark automotive rollout. Designed to run entirely on 100 percent ethanol, this world-first electrified flex-fuel MPV combines alternative biofuel technology with an advanced self-charging hybrid powertrain, offering a sustainable solution to combat rising fuel expenses and urban vehicle emissions.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated during a public address that the 100% ethanol-powered Toyota Innova HyCross is scheduled to make its official commercial debut in October.
How Does 100% Ethanol Innova HyCross Reduce Vehicle Running Costs?
The Innova HyCross vehicle pairs a flex-fuel engine with Toyota’s strong-hybrid electric motor, allowing the powertrain to generate up to 60% of its electricity automatically during operation. This electric assistance compensates for ethanol’s lower energy density, resulting in an effective running cost equivalent to petrol priced at approximately 25 rupees per liter.
Transitioning to domestically produced bio-ethanol helps slash India’s massive crude oil import bill, lowers tailpipe carbon emissions, and directs revenue directly to local farmers who produce ethanol feedstock from sugarcane, maize, and agricultural waste.
Indian automakers including Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, and Mahindra are actively developing 100% ethanol-compatible engines across various passenger and commercial vehicle segments to support the government’s clean energy push.
