The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a widespread severe weather alert for Uttar Pradesh (UP), warning residents and local administrative bodies of impending torrential downpours, strong surface winds, and potential flash flooding across multiple districts.
The weather monitoring agency forecasts heavy to extremely heavy rainfall reaching isolated regions across eastern and western Uttar Pradesh. Strong surface winds reaching speeds up to sixty kilometers per hour will accompany intense thundershowers. Additionally, daytime temperatures are projected to drop dramatically by four to seven degrees Celsius as the monsoon system intensifies throughout the state.
Which UP Districts Face Severe Flood Risks?
UP Administrative authorities flagged watersheds and low-lying zones across over thirty districts, including Lucknow, Bahraich, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, and Ayodhya, for heightened flash flood hazards. District magistrates across red and orange weather alert regions ordered educational institutions closed to safeguard students from hazardous road conditions and heavy rain risks.
Relief Commissioner Dr Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod conducted high-level video reviews with district officers to evaluate emergency preparedness. Field teams, disaster response units, and local administrative bodies are deployed near vulnerable watersheds to monitor rising river levels, clear drainage blockages, and coordinate swift rescue operations whenever waterlogging or flooding occurs.
Emergency management departments urged citizens to remain indoors during active thunderstorms and avoid sheltering under mature trees or near electric infrastructure. Authorities continue broadcasting real-time weather updates through public address systems and digital channels to ensure citizens stay informed about local rainfall risks.
