15-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines during the Duleep Trophy semi-final between East Zone and Central Zone. Leading East Zone in place of Ishan Kishan, Suryavanshi successfully overturned an on-field “not out” call using the Decision Review System (DRS) with just 3 seconds remaining on the timer, dismissing well-set batsman Aryan Juyal (46) off Mukesh Kumar’s bowling.

During the 39th over of Central Zone’s innings, bowler Mukesh Kumar induced an edge off Aryan Juyal, which was caught by wicketkeeper Kumar Kushagra. After the on-field umpire signaled “not out,” 15-year-old captain Vaibhav quickly consulted his teammates at slip. With just 3 seconds remaining on the DRS countdown timer, Suryavanshi signaled for a review. UltraEdge revealed a clear deflection off the bat, forcing the umpire to reverse the decision and break a key 46-run partnership.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest captain:

Vaibhav was appointed as the captain of the East Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy semi-final match following the absence of regular captain Ishan Kishan. Taking leadership responsibilities at just 15 years old, he became one of the youngest captains in domestic red-ball cricket history, earning widespread praise from commentators and former players for his tactical awareness and composure under pressure.

Having broken onto the domestic scene with record-breaking performances in junior and senior age-group tournaments, Suryavanshi’s smooth transition to red-ball leadership marks him as a major prospect for Indian cricket. His decisive handling of crucial match situations, such as strategic bowling changes and timely review calls, highlights his maturity beyond his age.
