World Tourism Day celebrations will be held on September 27 in Rajamahendravaram on a grand scale, with the Andhra Pradesh government organising the state-level event. Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh confirmed the venue during a review meeting at the Velagapudi Secretariat. Calling Rajamahendravaram the cultural capital of Andhra Pradesh, he directed tourism officials to promote the region’s rich heritage and natural attractions to domestic and international visitors.
State officials selected Rajamahendravaram due to its status as a primary cultural hub and its strategic importance for upcoming mega-events like the Godavari Pushkaralu. Hosting the state-level celebrations along the banks of the Godavari River provides a dedicated platform to showcase regional traditions, promote local hospitality infrastructure, and drive economic activity across the surrounding East Godavari district.
World Tourism Day: Tourism Ministry Details Key Initiatives
World Tourism Day will highlight Andhra Pradesh’s plans to expand tourism through specialised travel packages, tent cities and homestays for pilgrims and travellers. Minister Kandula Durgesh instructed officials to strengthen promotional efforts through roadshows in major Indian cities and overseas markets. The department also plans to organise regional festivals throughout the year to encourage sustained, year-round tourism activity across the state.
Expanding the tourism sector is expected to generate significant job opportunities for local youth in hospitality, transport, and event management. The state government is finalizing Detailed Project Reports to secure additional funds under central schemes, aiming to establish Andhra Pradesh as a leading tourism destination nationwide through sustainable infrastructure development.
